Browser extension

The calculator on this site works on its own and needs nothing installed. The extension is a separate, optional piece that fills the ordinary fields of the government form for you — after you have logged in yourself.

This is a tester build. It will not fill the real form yet.

Nobody has yet mapped the live Form 26QB field by field, so the extension deliberately refuses to type anything into it. On the real portal it will tell you: “Maytrika could not safely identify this version of the form. No information has been entered.”

That refusal is the point. A form half-filled with plausible but wrong values is more dangerous than an empty one, because your eye slides over a filled field. Install this only if you are helping test it.

Download

Version 0.1.0, for Google Chrome and other Chromium browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc). Chrome 116 or newer.

Download the extension (.zip)

The download is built from the same source as this website and published at the same time, so the two can never drift apart.

How to install it

Chrome does not install extensions by opening a downloaded file. You have to load the folder yourself, which takes about a minute:

  1. Unzip the file you just downloaded. You will get a folder.
  2. Open a new tab and go to chrome://extensions.
  3. Turn on Developer mode using the switch in the top-right corner.
  4. Click Load unpacked and choose the folder you unzipped.
  5. Come back to this site, work through the wizard, and the last step will offer to send your figures to the extension.

Developer mode is a real setting, so treat it seriously. It lets you load any unreviewed extension, not just this one, and Chrome will remind you about it each time it starts. If you would rather not leave it on, turn it off when you are finished — the extension stops until you turn it back on.

Where it is allowed to run

An extension has to declare its reach in advance, and a browser will not let it exceed what it declared. This one asks for these hosts and no others:

  • Income Tax e-Filing portal: www.incometax.gov.ineportal.incometax.gov.in
  • TRACES: www.tdscpc.gov.incontents.tdscpc.gov.in
  • This website, purely to receive the figures you already entered here.

It does not ask for access to every site, it does not read your browsing history, and it has no permission to make network requests to Maytrika.

What it will never do

  • Ask for your portal password, OTP or CAPTCHA, or log in as you.
  • Submit the form or authorise a payment on your behalf.
  • Touch a password field, even one it lands next to.
  • Send your PAN or figures to a Maytrika server. There is no server.

You log in, you review every value it fills, and you press submit. More on how it is built.
